Custom Metal Coating

Alfa Chemistry has extensive experience in metal mirror coatings when it comes to manufacturing mirrors that require high reflectivity and superior optical properties, so please feel free to seek our advice. Alfa Chemistry offers customized metallic mirror coatings made of aluminum, gold, or silver, frequently covered with a silicon monoxide protective layer (SiO2). By coating glass and resin substrates with a metal film that has a high reflectivity, metallic mirror coatings are created. The two available coating techniques are EBE and IAD. Metal coatings have a comparable but very wide reflectivity over a range of wavelengths. They are insensitive to the angle and polarization of the incident light.

Features and Advantages

A Variety of Metal Options

Alfa Chemistry has a wealth of knowledge in the field of mirror coatings for metals, enabling us to suggest a range of metals that are suitable for your needs. We will recommend a reflective coating that makes use of the qualities of aluminum, silver, gold, or other metals based on the needs of the customer.

  • Aluminum (Al): The material that reflects UV rays the best is Al. The reflection drop occurs around 850 nm due to phonon absorption. VUV performance can be enhanced in fluoride-protective aluminum coatings.
  • Silver (Ag): In VIS and NIR, silver coatings exhibit the highest reflectivity. They can be regarded as straightforward and affordable femtosecond laser reflectors due to their low GDD throughout a broad wavelength range.
  • Gold (Au): Gold has very poor adhesion to glass and requires a bonding layer of chromium. It is often applied as a solderable coating or without a protective layer in the far infrared.
  • Other metal coatings, like those made of platinum, chromium, or chromium-nickel, are also an option.

Customized Optical or Electrical Characteristics

Additionally, we can modify optical, electrical, or durability in particular application situations. We can change optical attributes like the wavelength and reflectivity of reflected light as well as incidence angle dependency by combining different metallic mirror coatings. Additionally, you may improve wear resistance, raise heat resistance, and alter the electrical characteristics of metals by selecting different alloys. Customization allows us to skillfully control the balance of features required by our customers' products.

Applications

  • Projector: By delicately adjusting light, metallic coating produces projector images that are brighter and of higher quality.
  • Digital Signage: By reducing reflections and glare, metallic coating makes displays and touchscreens simpler to behold than before.
  • Rearview Mirror: To ensure a clean back view, metallic coating reduces glare and dampness.
  • Moisture around mirrors, in places like bathrooms or sinks: Images are clearly and cloud-free reflected by the metal covering.
  • Astronomical Telescope with Mirror: The reflector of a reflective telescope can be constructed using reflection enhancement, which makes even faint starlight clearly visible.
