Zinc Selenide Components

Zinc selenide (ZnSe) is a transparent yellowish polycrystalline substance with a transmission range of 0.5 - 21 µm. The absorption coefficient of ZnSe at 10.6 μm is 0.0005 cm-1. ZnSe has a melting point of 1525 °C and a thermal conductivity of 18 W m-1 K-1 at 298K. Its coefficient of thermal expansion at 273 K is 7.1 x 10-6 /°C. The reflectance of ZnSe at 10.6 μm is typically 29.1%. The coefficient of thermal expansion at 273 K is 7.1 x 10-6 /°C.

ZnSe is the most popular material for infrared applications. Due to its very wide transmission range, ZnSe grown by chemical vapor deposition is used as a high optical quality material for the fabrication of optical components for high power infrared applications. It is well suited for optical components in high-resolution thermal imaging devices.

Zinc Selenide Components

Alfa Chemistry provides our customers a wide range of ZnSe optical components for UV and IR applications. Our ZnSe optical lenses are ideal for life science applications. ZnSe lenses are highly resistant to thermal shock and can be used in thermally demanding applications. Our ZnSe lenses can be coated with a transmission-enhancing film to minimize energy loss.
