Custom Gratings

A grating is a very important optical element that can periodically spatially modulate the amplitude or phase of the incident light. Alfa Chemistry has been closely collaborating with our clients to create unique grating-based solutions for them over the past few years. According to the needs of the customer, we can create gratings, markers, and resolution charts specifically for them.

Our Custom Capabilities

  • Diffraction Gratings: Its purpose is to divide light into various wavelengths or sequences. To fulfill your application demands, Alfa Chemistry offers scribing, holographic, and shine diffraction gratings. Depending on the application, diffraction gratings may operate by transmission or reflection.
  • Bar Charts: They typically consist of chromium patterns in space and isometric lines placed on a glass substrate. Bar gratings can be used to make moiré patterns and for optical test procedures like Ronchi reflector testing. Line pairs per millimeter, or lp/mm, is a measurement of line spacing.
  • Graticules: They are optical elements having unique patterns—often scales or crosshairs—deposited by photolithography on the substrate, and are sometimes known as reticules.
  • Resolution Charts: Alfa Chemistry's charts are used for resolution testing. Custom patterns are applied depending on the specification and the spatial frequency of the application.

Patterns can be deposited on optics such as windows, filters, and prisms using glass substrates depending on the application, for example, calcium fluoride can be used for applications from UV to IR. Alfa Chemistry also offers anti-reflective coatings that can be used to improve performance at particular wavelengths.

Metrology Capabilities

Testing optical parts at each level of the customization process is highly important to Alfa Chemistry. This is so that we can identify problems and make the necessary corrections at later stages of customization. Our metrology capabilities include, for example, slope error measurements using interferometry and long-track profilometry, micro-roughness using microscopy and interferometric microscopy, reflectance measurements and efficiency measurements as well as grating mapping EUV to IR.
