Custom Plastic Lenses

The low cost of plastic lenses contributes to their widespread popularity. Plastic lenses can be employed in applications where weight is a deciding factor, such as handheld end products, because they have a lower mass than their glass equivalents. Alfa Chemistry is a customizer of plastic lenses that can be customized to fit the customer's specific size and focal length. For instance, we may offer plastic lense sets in plano-convex, plano-concave, curved lunar, and aspheric forms that can replace the majority of glass single lens shapes. In our cutting-edge metrology lab, our highly qualified personnel test each product to make sure it complies with requirements. Please get in touch with our technical sales team for further details regarding your demands for custom plastic lenses.

Advantages and Uses of Custom Plastic Lenses

Our Capabilities

Most of our custom products are made in single lens format. Lens types are available in plano-convex, plano-concave, curved-moon and aspheric options. High clarity, low birefringence, minimal water absorption, and great optical stability after exposure to heat and moisture are just a few of the excellent optical characteristics of our custom plastic lenses. They are not as strong as glass, but they do offer a cheaper, lighter alternative. Our material options include a variety of materials including acrylic, polycarbonate or Zeonnex (COC). Alfa Chemistry's custom range features a wide range of products and coating options. Below is an example of our standard manufacturing capabilities.

Diameter3 mm·~ 100 mm+
Focal Length3 mm·~ 100 mm+
FormPlanoconvex, Planoconcave, Bi-convex, Bi-concave, Meniscus, Aspheric
Surface Figure< 60/40
Coating OptionsBBAR Ravg < 1% 400-700nm, AR coatings to add scratch resistance & hydrophobic overcoats
Material OptionsPMMA (acrylic), Polycarbonate, Zeonex (COC) and coloured plastic

Note:

Some plastic lenses will deteriorate when exposed to UV light since they are not as durable as glass lenses. The transmission of plastic lenses needs to be examined if they will be utilized in the UV or NIR spectrum or outside of the visible spectrum.

The benefits:

  • Lighter weight than glass lenses.
  • Good impact resistance.
  • Good visual accuracy.
  • Plastic lenses cost less than glass lenses when purchased in bulk.

Applications:

Optical plastic lenses are lightweight, inexpensive, and currently found in military night vision goggles, among other uses. They are perfect for use in the automotive, aerospace, medical, and scientific industries since they offer exceptional impact resistance.
