Rochon polarizing prisms are made from two birefringent α-BBO prisms bonded together. The first prism (cut parallel to the optical axis) receives light, while the second prism (cut at right angles to the optical axis) transmits ordinary light without deviation, but very light is deflected.
Rochon prisms can be used to generate plane polarized light. It can also be used with UV light.
