CLBO is the crystal of choice for harmonic generation in the UV range with a transmission cut-off edge of 180 nm. It has greater spectral and temperature acceptance, better angular tolerance and smaller walk-off angle than BBO. CLBO is a highly hygroscopic NLO crystalline material. Therefore standard CLBO crystals need to be sealed in the case.

CLBO is a good choice for frequency doubling (SHG) for frequency quadrupling (FHG) of high power Nd:YAG laser systems.
