Silver Gallium Selenide (AGSe) is an optically negative uniaxial crystal with reasonable transmittance in the region of approximately 0.7 μm - 18 μm. AGSe crystals have one of the highest quality factors among commercially available mid-infrared nonlinear crystals, six times that of the corresponding AGS crystals. AGSe is also a better choice than other mid-IR crystals for some special reasons.

AgGaSe2 crystals have band edges at 0.73 and 18 µm. When pumped by a variety of different lasers, its useful transmission range (0.9–16 µm) and wide phase matching capability offer excellent potential for OPO applications.
1. Frequency mix in IR region from 4.0 to 18.3 µm 2. Second harmonic generation and up-conversion of CO2 lasers 3. Tunable OPO for solid state laser with up to 10% efficiency
